Narai Tanabe (田邊 名来, Tanabe Narai) is a minor character in the Hibike! Euphonium series. He is a third-year student who plays percussion and he also served as percussion section leader.

Appearance

Narai has short ruffled forest-green hair that is swept to the left side and light lime eyes. 

He is usually seen with a standard Kitauji High School uniform for boys.

Personality

Little is known about Narai's personality, but he seems to be a good percussion section leader who is very enthusiastic and passionate when it comes to playing percussion in the band.

Relationships

Narai is particularly close with Masahiro Hashimoto, even bursting into tears when the latter announced he was leaving the students at the end of the summer.

Etymology

• The name Narai means "name, noted, distinguished, reputation" (名) (na) and "coming/come, due, next, since, cause, become" (来) (rai).
• Narai's surname Tanabe means "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta) and "edge, margin, side, border" (邊) (nabe).
